At Sonny Acres Farm in West Chicago, a distinctive new event venue is taking shape. The Barn on North is being developed by LivModern as a refined, year-round destination for weddings, celebrations, corporate gatherings, and special events.
Set within the established landscape of Sonny Acres Farm, the approximately 7,000-square-foot venue is designed to accommodate up to 300 guests while preserving the warmth and character expected of a countryside setting. The vision, however, extends well beyond the traditional idea of a barn venue.
The Barn on North brings together natural materials, contemporary detailing, expansive glass, and carefully planned gathering spaces to create an environment that feels both elevated and welcoming.
A Contemporary Interpretation of the Barn
The architecture draws inspiration from the familiar form and warmth of a traditional barn, reinterpreted through LivModern’s design-forward perspective.
Inside, soaring ceilings and warm architectural ceiling panels introduce character, texture, and visual depth. Generous windows and expanses of glass fill the venue with natural light while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding farm landscape.
One of the project’s defining spaces will be the Glass Atrium. With sweeping views of the pond and surrounding grounds, the atrium is designed to bring the outdoors in and make the natural setting part of the celebration. The changing light, water, landscape, and seasons will create an ever-evolving backdrop for ceremonies and gatherings throughout the year.
Rather than treating the building and its environment as separate experiences, the design allows them to become part of one cohesive setting.
Designed Around the Complete Guest Experience
Every element of The Barn on North is being considered from the perspective of the people who will use it.
The venue will feature two bars to support efficient service and encourage guests to move comfortably throughout the space. Two private suites will provide dedicated areas for wedding parties and event hosts to prepare, gather, and step away when needed.
Couples will also have the flexibility to plan indoor or outdoor ceremonies, allowing the venue to accommodate different seasons, weather conditions, and event styles. Inside, the Glass Atrium will offer the beauty of the farm and pond within the comfort of a protected, light-filled setting.
Together, these elements will support the complete flow of a celebration—from preparation and ceremony to dinner, dancing, and the final farewell.
